BLURB:
A love letter to the craft and romance of film and fate in front of—and behind—the camera from the award-winning author of Hold Still.

A wunderkind young set designer, Emi has already started to find her way in the competitive Hollywood film world.

Emi is a film buff and a true romantic, but her real-life relationships are a mess. She has desperately gone back to the same girl too many times to mention. But then a mysterious letter from a silver screen legend leads Emi to Ava. Ava is unlike anyone Emi has ever met. She has a tumultuous, not-so-glamorous past, and lives an unconventional life. She’s enigmatic…. She’s beautiful. And she is about to expand Emi’s understanding of family, acceptance, and true romance.

EXPECTATIONS: I have previously read We Are Okay by Nina Lacour and really really loved it so going into another book of Nina was obviously very exciting for me.

THE WORLD: Basically it is just like ours and the focus is completely on Hollywood. Like movie production and all that is the center of this book. Except that it is very fairy tale like and super sugar coated. I frankly had massive problems here, you might know or not but before I went into Science I actually got BA in Film Studies so I am very familiar with how movie industry works and all the little details of it. What is shown in this book is complete nonsense. I mean even if you are not familiar with Hollywood I think the fact that two college professors can afford a huge house in central area of LA and raise two kids there...yeah nope. It was like reading a book where everybody believes Earth is flat and Sun is rotating around it.

CHARACTERS: Our main character is called Emi and she is this movie runner. In case you are not familiar with a title, movie runner is the one that everybody uses and nobody pays. Basically everybody starts as a movie runner in Hollywood. My old professor used to tell us a lot of stories about her start of career, mind she was a runner back in times when Vanilla Sky came out so today it is even worse. But let's go back to the characters. Basically Emi is this set designer who comes as an intern and suddenly is given the jobs and is treated also like a genius where she is nothing special really. One of independent movie producers notice her and hire and thats basically the story. Except that there is  another character Ava. She is this foster kid pulling night shifts in some packaging factory and suddenly Emi finds out she is actually a lost grandchild of some worldwide famous actor and bam Ava is rich and on top of that she is a natural actress and blah blah. Like really, the story and characters were so shallow and so cheap Hollywood movie like. I liked absolutely nothing about them.

ROMANCE: Emi has some crush on her ex who broke up with her like 10 times and then she meets Ava. I mean 10 times...I am not sure if the author is patronizing here or is she serious. Because if she is then thanks but I'll stick with We Are Okay.

GOOD: Nothing. I really really disliked this book.

BAD: This Hollywood bubble that makes you believe that if you go there you are straight away a star. Well in reality you first need connections because you can be talented as much as you want but if you have no connections you will never ever make it in Hollywood. It is a place where everybody wants to be IT and you can I think imagine how much trust that gives people.

OVERALL: Was super disappointed with this book. It was super shallow and if I read it first I would have never picked up We Are Okay. Also, right now I really don't feel like reading anything of Nina anymore.

What do you think about EVERYTHING LEADS TO YOU?
