BLURB:
A magically inspiring tale of a man who is reincarnated through many lifetimes so that he can be with his one true love: Death herself.

What if you could live forever—but without your one true love? Reincarnation Blues is the story of a man who has been reincarnated nearly 10,000 times, in search of the secret to immortality so that he can be with his beloved, the incarnation of Death. Neil Gaiman meets Kurt Vonnegut in this darkly whimsical, hilariously profound, and wildly imaginative comedy of the secrets of life and love. Transporting us from ancient India to outer space to Renaissance Italy to the present day, is a journey through time, space, and the human heart.

EXPECTATIONS: I found out about this book from a friend of mine, she read it and recommended it to me and frankly the whole idea of this book...it does indeed sound like something up my alley.

THE WORLD: There are two distinct worlds in this book, the afterland and our world. Basically the main character gets to live many lives, he is reincarnated again and again till he finds the perfection. Needless to say our character is as far from perfection as it gets so he has been incarnated for almost 10,000 times. Yes he had almost 10,000 lives and he remembers almost everything. The afterland does not last long, it is where our main character travels to when he dies and where his "aunts" send him back to earth.

CHARACTERS: Our main character is called Milo and as I already told you he gets reincarnated again and again. Of course in his many lives he gets many names but the death and the aunts seem to always call him Milo. Now Milo is not a nice person, he is often mean and self centered, he does not care for other people much and that is given as a sorta clue why he does not manage to ever achieve perfection. Am I a fan of Milo? Not really. It's not that he is an annoying character or something, for me he is just too 'I am cool' style. You know these guys who walk the street thinking they are really something when in reality they are really pathetic? I got same vibe here. We also have a death as a character, she normally comes to collect Milo and eventually we get to know her too. It is interesting because the death is not really into being a death and she rather would have her own little shop than work as a death. Of course that is not allowed and so death sorta is dead when she quits her job. Confusing I know but in the book it does make sense trust me.

ROMANCE: Milo and Death develop this relationship which eventually turns into romantic one. They want to be together but because he is a human and she is a death it is not allowed and well things get in their way a lot.

GOOD: The idea was very unique. I mean after a while this whole living again and again got repetitive but I still really liked it.

BAD: This whole exploration for what is perfect and how you should be to achieve the perfection. For me it was too much religion even tho it is not really names.

OVERALL: I enjoyed this book a lot and if my friend did not recommend it I might have never picked it up. If you are looking for something different but rather easy I would really recommend it. Plus it's a stand alone which is very rare these days.

What do you think about REINCARNATION BLUES?
